FAQ001

What is an Onadime Composition?

A Composition is a new kind of original artwork; it is a dynamic sensor-to-effects software program, with enclosed media. It is the ultimate remixing tool, allowing creation of customized interactive media experiences. Because Onadime renders video on-the-fly a Composition can respond immediatly and forever with fresh live sound and video! The Composition defines all the dynamics and all the media, the performer literally plays it.

Onadime is a temporal medium, so an Onadime Composition describes how to change in response to change. Like improvisational jazz music, Onadime allows for time but remains in the moment…moving to the beat of the immediate now by responding in real-time to new inputs. Onadime can respond to the music on a CD, to the movement of your hand on a computer mouse, or to both at once. Pictures, QuickTime movies, live video, sounds, and MIDI are a some of Onadime's media sources. Onadime adds the dimension of the moment to any existing linear medium.

Using OVALL, the patented visual data-flow language of Onadime Composerâ„¢, an author defines how the computers sensors will respond using a universe of real-time digital effects. As you play any Composition, Onadime generates on-the-fly responses based on the Composition's rules, the media database, and the live sensor inputs. To put it metaphorically, Onadime is the theater; The Composition is the orchestra, the set, the props, and the lighting; And the live sensor dynamics actually create the performance, remixing movies, changing colors, triggering synthesizers, whatever dynamics the Composer setup! The Onadime Composer wraps everything up into an Onadime Composition, so when the Composition is "played" the live performance data directs the show!

There are many kinds of Composition for many different purposes. Some are tools, some toys, some Art, some Science. Some don't require any human input, others may listen to several people at once. They may listen to a computer mouse and qwerty keyboard, or string bass and piano keyboard. Some are musical artscapes where your movements shape both sound and light. Some are high-end video production tools. Some teach about physical systems, like pendulums, color theory, or the moon's phases. Some deliver animated cartoons to the live stage.

Creative Vision is Now the Limit.

The modular nature of Onadime allows any digital technology to be quickly integrated and made into a real-time interactive component. This immediatly confers a new level of live interactivity and creative potential to the new component. It can then interact with all the other live digital resources. Better still, because Onadime components can be rigorously tested ahead of time, they can be trusted to perform as expected. Onadime's patented process allows creators to link these tested resources into highly customized effects and tools.
